Job Vacancy: Communications Specialist

Role Purpose:

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing a communication strategy for the Worker’s Wellness Alliance Project. This includes coordinating with key stakeholders, donors, and national organizations, as well as creating and sharing communication materials such as newsletters and reports.

Accountabilities and Main Work Activities:

  • Plan, develop, and implement communication and advocacy strategies for the project.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the WWA project, representing it to various stakeholders.
  • Develop and share frequent communication materials with the donor, including photographs, project highlights, and reports.
  • Support the planning and implementation of the project’s workplan and branding activities.
  • Gather success stories, photographs, film footage, and interviews from the field for communication purposes.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team on communication campaigns, reports, and other activities.
  • Work with the WWA and technical teams to create engaging web, print, and audiovisual materials.
  • Proofread publications and communications materials.
  • Assist in the production and branding of various publications and deliverables.
  • Coordinate outsourced tasks such as graphics design, illustrations, video recording, and documentation.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with the media, organize media coverage, and develop speeches and press releases.
  • Network with partners and coordinate advocacy efforts related to industrial workers.
  • Share relevant information with country office and national networks for learning and best practices.
  • Communicate and liaise with development networks and national media.

  • Fulfill additional assignments as needed.
  • Promote innovative ideas and approaches to ensure the quality of work.
  • Adhere to Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) policies.
  • Contribute to Plan International’s global efforts in safeguarding and GEI.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications/Experience essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Development Communication, Behavioral Communication, or Social Sciences.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in communication work, preferably related to children, human rights, or workers’ welfare.
  • Strong experience in designing communication materials and campaigns on social issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good media relations and knowledge of social media.
  • Demonstrates leadership, versatility, and integrity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and skilled in Adobe Creative Suite Package (preferred).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects.

Job Vacancy: Communications Specialist

Plan International Ethiopia is seeking a qualified Communications Specialist to join their team in Addis Ababa. The main responsibilities of this role include developing and implementing communication strategies for the Worker’s Wellness Alliance Project, coordinating with stakeholders, creating communication materials, and representing the project to various audiences.

Qualifications/Experience Desired:

  • Expertise in and sensitivity to the socio-cultural barriers facing intended beneficiaries for this program.
  • Previous work experience with USAID is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Fluent in English and Amharic with strong verbal and written communication skills.
