Position 1: Health Officer

Job Description

Summary Scope of Work:
Jhpiego Ethiopia Country Office is hiring clinicians with a medicine or public health background for a post-conflict recovery response in the Amhara region. The Health Officer position will be based in selected health facilities and/or IDP sites in and around Debre Berhan, as assigned by the regional health bureau (RHB). The Health Officer will provide essential health care services to communities in conflict-affected zones, working as part of a mobile health and nutrition team or a service delivery team at an assigned health facility. The responsibilities include maternal and child health care, emergency nutrition services, sexual and reproductive health care, communicable and non-communicable diseases treatment care, mental health and psychosocial support, health risk communication, IPC/WASH, public health surveillance, and emergency response. The Health Officer will closely collaborate with regional and zonal health bureaus.

Job Requirements

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day service delivery in the assigned IDP site or health facility
  • Work at adult OPD and manage all cases above 5 years old (NCDS, Communicable Diseases)
  • Act as a medical consultant for all medical cases encountered by the team
  • Support team coordination and act as a co-team leader
  • Conduct other activities given by the zonal health office, health facility leader, and supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum university degree (medical doctor or HO) from an accredited/recognized institute with a certified professional license
  • Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel…)
  • Experience in emergency response or similar settings is an added value
  • Fluency in the local language is desired
  • Thorough understanding of case management and social work
  • Good communication skills with different stakeholders
  • Ability to work under pressure

Position 2: Psychosocial Support Expert

Jhpiego Ethiopia Country Office is hiring psychosocial experts with a health background for a post-conflict recovery response in the region. The Psychosocial Support Expert position will be based in selected health facilities or IDP sites in or around Debre Berhan town, as assigned by the regional health bureau (RHB). The expert will provide essential health care services to communities in conflict-affected zones, working as part of a mobile health and nutrition team or a service delivery team at an assigned health facility. The responsibilities include providing psychosocial support, mental health education, screening, counseling, diagnosis, and referral. The expert will also provide onsite psychosocial training for health workers and community volunteers.

Job Requirements

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day service delivery in the assigned IDP site or health facility
  • Provide psychosocial support for the community (mental health education, screening, counseling, diagnosis, and referral)
  • Provide onsite psychosocial therapy to cases at the working site
  • Provide psychosocial training for health workers and community volunteers
  • Conduct other activities given by the zonal health office, health facility leader, and supervisor

Required Qualifications:

  • First degree in clinical psychology or social work/health or related fields with relevant training on psychosocial support (graduated within the last 24 months)
  • Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel…)
  • Experience in emergency response or similar settings is an added value
  • Fluency in the local language is desired
  • Thorough understanding of case management and social work
  • Good communication skills with different stakeholders
  • Ability to work under pressure
