Job Summary:
The Finance Officer at Samaritan’s Purse will be responsible for managing the financial procedures of the organization. This includes planning budgets, participating in audits, monitoring transactions, and preparing invoices. The ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of financial policies, procedures, and systems. Excellent communication, analytical, and time management skills are also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure implementation of Samaritan’s Purse accounting systems and procedures over cash.
  • Work on cash forecasts with Program managers and maintain cash balance.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of financial transactions of the field office.
  • Effect payments on cash, cheque, and wire transfer.
  • Reconcile all cash on a daily basis and report any discrepancies.
  • Administer cash advances to employees and partners, reconciling receipts and cash.
  • Support internal and external audit activities.
  • Properly file and maintain finance documents.
  • Deduct withholding taxes on payment declarations to ERCA.
  • Support banking and maintain a healthy relationship with banks and tax office.
  • Provide support to base staff regarding financial policies/practices.
  • Identify areas of feasible financial and administrative improvements.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Art in Accounting/Finance or Business Management.
  • At least three years of experience preferably as a finance officer in an NGO/INGO setting.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in English and Amharic.
  • High attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal and team skills with the ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
  • Coaching and training skills with the ability to develop others.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work in various contexts.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice and often in difficult circumstances.
